UK Student (and several work) routes require maintenance funds to be held for 28 consecutive days, counted back from the closing balance date on your most recent evidence. That evidence must be dated within 31 days of the online application (GOV.UK; Appendix Finance).
How applicants get caught by FX
If your account is not in GBP, UKVI converts with OANDA on the application date. Applicants tracking rates day-by-day sometimes see the INR (or other) balance clear the line in the morning and fall a few pounds short by evening — then top up, which can restart the window if the prior days were already marginal.
What to do
- Target the published GBP requirement for your CAS / route dates.
- Keep a buffer (many advisers suggest ~10–15% — guidance only, not a statute).
- Run our UK 28-day checker / visa risk check — we show an FX stress test at −5% / −10% on the indicative rate.
- Do not park borrowed funds to “fix” a dip.
StatementCraft never predicts approval. Re-check OANDA the morning you apply.
