Parents often wire a lump sum the week before biometrics “to make the balance look safer.” Forum threads (UK, Schengen, US J-1/F-1) show this is one of the most common self-inflicted problems.
Route-by-route impact

Maintenance funds must be held for 28 consecutive days, counted back from the closing balance date on your evidence (GOV.UK). Money that arrives on day 1 of that window does not count for the prior 27 days. Moving parental funds into your account usually restarts the clock.
Prefer parental funds left with the parent, plus consent letter and birth certificate, when the route allows it.
Schengen
Officers look at stability over 3–6 months. A near-empty account that suddenly shows a parent credit reads as funds arranged for the visa — even if the amount is “enough” for the trip.

IRCC weighs source and availability. Federal Court decisions have upheld refusals where applicants showed balance certificates without transaction history or clear origin of lump sums.
